Manchester United have reportedly withdrawn from the race to sign Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret, paving the way for Serie A champions Inter to make a move for the Italian stopper. According to recent reports, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has no intention of pursuing a Bosman deal for Meret, who is out of contract at Napoli at the end of the season.

Meret's contract situation at Napoli has been a subject of interest for top clubs across Europe. Despite the club's efforts to convince the 27-year-old to sign a new deal, extension talks have reached an impasse. Napoli are likely to turn to highly-rated 23-year-old Elia Caprile to fill the vacancy between the sticks if Meret decides to depart.

Inter are keen to bring Meret to the Giuseppe Meazza, despite signing Josep Martinez from Genoa this summer. The Spaniard has failed to dislodge Yann Sommer from Simone Inzaghi's starting lineup, casting doubt on his long-term prospects at the Nerazzurri. Antonio Conte holds Meret in high esteem, and the Italian stopper could be a valuable addition to Inter's squad.

Napoli would be powerless to stop Meret from joining their direct Scudetto rivals if they fail to extend his deal in the coming months. This scenario is becoming increasingly likely, particularly after Amorim pulled the plug on Manchester United's interest in the former Udinese keeper.

Manchester United's decision to abandon their pursuit of Alex Meret has opened the door for Inter to make a move for the Napoli goalkeeper. With Meret's contract situation at Napoli unresolved, the Italian stopper could be set for a new challenge in the summer.
